Sherry (Qiong) Tao

Sherry Tao represents multinational corporations and individuals in connection with a wide variety of corporate investigations, particularly involving enforcement matters before the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Ms. Tao advises clients on a wide variety of issues relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), insider trading, economic sanctions and anti-money laundering. She also has experience in handling FCPA and compliance due diligence matters in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, as well as working with clients to develop and enhance their compliance programs.

Ms. Tao’s representative experience includes:

• conducting internal investigations on behalf of multinational corporations in response to inquiries from the U.S. government, whistleblower allegations and the companies’ compliance proactive initiatives;
• advising multiple clients on FCPA-related issues, involving allegations of bribery, misappropriation of funds and accounting fraud;
• representing public companies in investigations and inquiries by the SEC and FINRA involving allegations of insider trading; and
• defending multiple Chinese companies listed in the U.S. in class actions in U.S. federal courts involving federal securities claims.

Prior to joining Skadden, Ms. Tao interned with several leading U.S. law firms and government agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission, U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation. Additionally, she worked at the Association of Corporate Counsel and the World Bank Group.
